Not Surprised, but Disappointed

On August 13th, I saw pictures of an adorable smooshed brown face that belonged to a French Bulldog puppy named Pammy. Pammy needed a new home. She was the first adoptable Frenchie I’ve seen that could live with other dogs, cats, and even birds! I wanted her. I paid the $10 application fee and carefully filled out their 4 page application. Then I waited.

I knew they would get 100s of applications for a puppy like that. I knew she was located in Pennsylvania and they would probably pick someone closer if they could. I didn’t expect to get her, but yesterday when I received the email saying I was not chosen to adopt her, I was still sad.

Now I’m not sure what’s next. Part of me really wants a 2nd dog. I love seeing two play together and snuggle together, but do I want the extra hassle and expense of a second dog? If that second dog was Pammy, I have no doubt that she would have fit right in and I would not have had any regrets. Now I’m overthinking things.

I may look into fostering. It would give me a chance to help a dog that needed it, and to see how the household reacts to a 2nd dog. It’s been a while since we had more than one. If the foster “fails” and I want to keep it, that wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, but if it doesn’t work out, I haven’t made a huge commitment.

Anyone fostered? I’ve fostered kittens before. I’ve successfully fostered litters, raised them, and brought them back to the shelter for adoption. Only one of them is still here, her name is Logan, and she’s 11 now.

Dog Day!

Happy National Dog Day!

As I’m sitting at my computer with my Dad’s Portuguese Water dog under my desk, his other Portie by my side, and my own morkie on the other side, I’ve got plenty of dogs to help me celebrate!  Happy Dog Day everyone!  Give your furry friends an extra pat today.

Long shot…

I’ve been a huge fan of pugs, Frenchies, Old English Bulldogs, really any short-nosed dog, since I was little and my Aunt had a pug. That pug hated me! I still have a scar on my arm to prove that he did not want to go on my swing set with me!

As much as I would love to own a Frenchie some day, I think the chances are pretty low that it will happen because I just can’t bring myself to go to a breeder to buy one when there are so many amazing dogs that need adopting in shelters. There are rescue groups, but with the popularity of the Frenchie, it seems that most of the dogs that end up in rescue have some kind of issue, and they usually won’t adopt to homes with other dogs, or cats, or small animals, etc.  I have them all.

Last night, a beautiful little Frenchie face showed up in my Facebook feed. She’s 7 months old, and she loves everyone, dogs, cats, kids, etc, WOW! I kept reading, and this little dog seems exactly like what I have been looking for. She had a rough start in life and had a broken leg that was fixed through surgery, but she seems to be getting along fine now. I couldn’t help myself, and I filled out the application.

She’s in another state, and I’m guessing there will be a ton of applications on her. I think my chances of getting her are probably pretty low, but I couldn’t resist trying. The rescue says the application process usually takes 4-6 weeks.  My fingers are crossed and my references are notified!

What’s your favorite breed or type of dog?

Normal(ish) Morning

Sitting at my computer this morning, trying to get some work done and here’s what is going on…

The cat is sleeping on the lizard’s tank, so I move him to the floor.  The dog and cat start wrestling. When they get close to the parrot cage, she screams.  I whistle at her and she whistles back.  Much better than the screaming!

A couple of minutes later, the parrot climbs onto the floor and starts chasing the cat.  I return the bird to her cage and clean up the bird poop. While I’m up, the lizard poops in her tank.  Bearded Dragon poop is one of the most foul smelling things on earth, it is most likely the inspiration for the Bog of Eternal Stench in Labyrinth. I move the cat (again) and clean up the lizard poop. I give her a super quick bath and return her to her tank. The bird runs over, bites my toe, and runs away laughing. She climbs back up to her cage and sits on her perch looking at me like “What’s wrong with you?”

Finally, the lizard is comfortably settled and basking under her heat lamp, the parrot is whistling along to the music I’m playing, apparently she likes classic rock this morning. The dog curled up at my feet, and the cat snuggled up in the dog crate.  Time to take advantage of the calm moment and get back to work!

How’s your morning going?

Introducing Me!

Hello World,

I’m a Wife and Momma to 2 grown kids and a small herd of pets. What can I say, I’ve loved animals as long as I’ve been alive. Over the years I’ve had dogs, cats, horses, lizards, snakes, a chinchilla, a hedgehog, birds, and more! My current babies include an 11 lb morkie with 50 lbs worth of attitude, an African Grey parrot that is nothing but attitude, a Bearded Dragon that’s actually very sweet, and two cuddly kitties.

Soon, I’ll add more posts about me, and about my past and current pets. I hope to cover all things animals here. Let me know what info you want to see.
